Linux Kernel 3.12.36 LTS Officially Released

Postby Vipin » Sat Jan 17, 2015 10:18 am

The latest version of the stable Linux kernel, 3.12.36, has been announced by Jiri Slaby and it has arrived with a fair number of changes and improvements.

Even if this is a very old branch, the kernel developers are still releasing updates for it and here is no sign that they intend to stop anytime soon. In fact, this latest iteration is quite a big, but that was to be expected.

“I'm announcing the release of the 3.12.36 kernel. All users of the 3.12 kernel series must upgrade.”

“The updated 3.12.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kern ... stable.git linux-3.12.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/g ... ;a=summary,” Jiri Slaby said in the email announcement.

This is an LTS branch, which means that it will receive updates for quite a while. It's impossible to know beforehand when these updates will stop, so if you get a chance to upgrade don't miss it.

If you are using any of the versions released until now in the Linux kernel 3.12.x branch, you should consider an update to this current build, although there are a couple of newer kernel versions available for download.
